Early Years – King’s Kids/PCYM

We joined staff with YWAM Virginia in 1990; and our focus was to be part of King’s Kids International. We led teams for 15 years and served on the KKI North American Leadership team. We were drawn to this ministry because as a family with six children we wanted to be involved with discipleship for the whole family. King’s Kids provided a wonderful way to disciple our own children as well as other families. A highlight for us was attending Target World ’96, the 1996 Olympic games Outreach in Atlanta, GA where 3,000 King’s Kids from around the world gathered for outreach preparation before, during and after the Olympic games. In 1999 we also enjoyed going to Paisley, Scotland as a family to attend a  Principles in Child and Youth Ministry school with King’s Kids Scotland. This was the leadership training school for KK leaders to help equip us to reach the Emerging Generation of children and youth.

In 2005, we went to Arusha, Tanzania to help start a Principles in Child & Youth Ministry School. We stayed for four months, staffing and teaching in the school and finding that God had placed a love in our hearts for Tanzania. We have gone back many times leading teams, both YWAM and church teams to connect churches with the many needs and visions of YWAM Tanzania. We continue to work with YWAM in Kenya, Tanzania and Pemba Island to build church partnerships in some very remote areas.
Member Care/Hospitality
In 2015 we went to Nairobi, Kenya to attend a Missionary Care Foundations Course (MCFC), a three week course in member care training which is our present focus and responsibility in YWAM. We direct member care at our base in Richmond, and help where we can with the other locations in Lynchburg and Virginia Beach. We have also staffed and taught in MCFC’s in Richmond, VA (2018), Salem, OR (2020), Weyerhaeuser, WS (2021), Oxford, New Zealand (2023). Our focus in member care is to equip, train and restore YWAM missionaries for effective long term service. We also serve on the North American Member Care Core Team to promote and train member care workers throughout North America.
We have had many opportunities to meet people from around the world and to use our home for a place of ministry in member care, hospitality, and Bible study.
