November 14th

“I was up again at 7 for a shower and breakfast, followed by a good 10 minute walk to my classroom with my Columbian friend Jose. Got there by 8, and as usual each member of the class was off to find a quiet place to spend some alone time with God. By 9 we were all back together, sharing what we felt God was speaking to us. Class started promptly at 9:45, and I’ve got to tell you, the teacher this week, Troy Sherman, he’s amazing! I can’t begin to describe the things he’s downloading to us. I mean, it’s like every day he’s telling stories that make me look at life and God in a whole new way.

At 11, we took our mid-morning snack and email break (as usual, the coffee rocked!). I was able to chat with the teacher one-on-one. Somewhere along the way he asked me what God wants me to surrender and I just stood there, not knowing what to say. “He’ll show you,” he chuckled, “by Friday!” Well, thank God it’s only Tuesday.

Walked back to the campus for lunch (12:30-1:15pm) and absolutely loved the rice, beans and Mediterranean chicken.

Then came the work duties. Everyone in YWAM does them. They help keep our costs low and teach us practical stuff that we can use on mission trips. For two hours I helped Dale fix a downspout on the the Cottage. Weather was kind of cold, but I like working outside better than in the kitchen. After fixing the downspout, I got another shower and then settled down to read another chapter of “Ministering Cross-culturally?” It’s the third of 5 books I have to do a report on and it really helping me understand other cultures.

At dinner we had a Korean rice dish, complete with Kimchee. Then we were off to a short night class. Again I was able to corner the teacher and ask him a bit about what he sees in me. I’m beginning to see in myself the heart of a counselor or encourager, just like Pastor Jason always said, but I still need confirmation on that. I’m so glad I can ask him these questions all week.

After class, Josh and I went to the Human Performance Center a couple miles down the road and got in a good workout. I benched 185 this time. Now I’m back in the Ranch (my dorm), writing all this down for posterity.

This weekend is going to rock! We’ve doing an outreach downtown at the VCU campus. All in all, it’s been another unforgettable day in DTS. I pray I continue to let God teach me all he wants to teach me, and that I’ll use this time wisely.”
